The Daily Blogging Challenge: Following in Some Big Footsteps

Years ago, my fellow SANS instructor Lenny Zeltser did this daily blog post challenge where he blogged every single day. He said he had a really good time doing it. A couple years ago, one of my best friends and fellow SANS instructor David Cowen took on what he called the “Zeltser Challenge” – blogging every day for a year.

A year ago, Dave tried to get me to join him in blogging daily for a year. I said there was no way I could do it – I was too busy working on course updates and cranking out new content for the SANS SEC 587 Advanced OSINT course.

Well, a couple months ago Dave hit me up again. “Okay, this year – you and me.” Even though I’m still super busy, for some reason I agreed to do it. I haven’t talked about it publicly until now because, you know how it is – you’re never quite sure if you’ll stick with it or if something will come up.

The other night Dave and I were talking, and he asked about my blogging. I told him yeah, I’m blogging every day – I just bailed on my old Digital Forensics Tips blog and decided to do it under my business on the Argelius Labs website blog. He was like “Why haven’t you been advertising this?”

I guess I was just focused on using it to force myself to do new research and play with different things, at least during the week (I’ve kind of shifted to irreverent weekend posts ranking football helmets and such). But now Dave’s gone and featured my blog on his blog, so I’m basically pot committed here.

I’ve been cranking out content, and I’ve got some good plans for posts that I’ll try to advertise on LinkedIn and Twitter because I think they’ll have wider appeal. We’ll talk about one of these things tomorrow.
